I would like to proudly announce that NUC University – Florida Technical College & DAVE School’s upcoming commencement ceremony will be held on Friday, July 7, 2023, at the Amway Center in Orlando, Florida. This event marks the culmination of your hard work, personal sacrifice, and dedication.

Of course no one ever achieved any significant goal by themselves. This is your opportunity to celebrate your accomplishment with family and friends in the incredible venue of the Amway Center.

COVID 19 POLICY- COMMUNITY LEVEL UPDATE

After easing the face-covering requirement in accordance to CDC guidelines, we have been constantly monitoring the COVID 19 community levels per county.

Employees, students and/or visitors of campuses in counties that have high, medium, or low levels of COVID cases will follow the rules below:

Sign Definition
Low Level Masks are voluntary inside the campus for counties reporting low levels.
Medium Level Masks are voluntary inside the campus for counties reporting medium levels.
High Level Masks are mandatory inside the campus for counties reporting high incidence levels

 

As of today 8/19/2022, Dave School, DeLand School and Orlando Campus have MEDIUM COVID 19 community levels. Any employee, student and/or visitor at the campus may opt not to wear a facemask.

With the exception  of the above location all other campus have HIGH COVID 19 community levels. Any employee, student and/or visitor at these locations are required to wear facemask.

We will continue monitoring the weekly reports provided by the CDC and will publish those every week. The campuses will post signs at all points of entry to inform of the facemask requirement status.

Having said that, the COVID 19 protocol will continue in place and before visiting the campus, if you respond “YES” to any of the questions below, please refrain from going to campus or, if you have already traveled to campus, please exit the campus immediately and notify your Supervisor and/or Instructor.

Dear Graduates,

At NUC University, Florida Technical College, we take pride in our celebrations and honor our traditions, and Commencement, is our pivotal celebratory event. Since the pandemic, each campus has hosted smaller scale graduation celebrations and award ceremonies, ensuring that each of our students has an opportunity to celebrate their achievements, with family, friends, our faculty and staff.

Commencement ceremonies and graduation celebratory activities are a culmination of all your hard work, personal sacrifice, and determination. We are pleased to announce that in early Spring 2023, NUC FTC will return to the arena to celebrate all graduates from 2020 to 2023! This event will showcase our alumni and the contributions they have made in their industry and communities, and we are excited to coordinate this event for you.

This year, each campus will once again host their graduation celebrations for all who have graduated from July 2021 to June 2022. Each Graduate will be allowed to invite friends and family members to participate with them in the celebratory activities. The event will be recorded and there will be plenty of opportunities for photos as you walk across the stage.

In accordance with the latest CDC guidelines, we inform you that NUC University – Florida Technical College has updated the COVID 19 protocol to ease the face-covering requirement.

Effective immediately, in counties that have high, medium, or low levels of COVID cases will follow the rules below:

In preparation for the new term and due to new developments, trends in the state of Florida with regards COVID-19 protocols we wanted to restate our protocol and safety measures and communicate new changes about quarantine requirements. Since the beginning of the pandemic, our focus has always been the safety of our staff, faculty, and students and in line with the CDC.

As we approach the beginning for the new term and in order to maintain a healthy environment while on Campus we ask that, you abide by the guidelines below.

Effective January 4, 2022, we follow the revised COVID 19 Protocol that includes the following changes. All students, employees, and visitors must:

  • Must wear and/or present Identification if asked (example: College ID).
  • ALL MUST wear a face covering correctly while on campus for all vaccinated and unvaccinated campus visitors, faculty, staff, and students.
  • Campus Common Areas will be limited, we ask that you refrain from visiting other classrooms, departments, unless necessary or by appointment.
  • Comply with posted campus guidelines and established hygiene and sanitation requirements.
  • Acrylic dividers will remain in place in the offices as well.
  • Regular Cleaning and sanitation of the campus will continue by the cleaning company.

PLEASE NOTE****If you are age 18 or older and have received all recommended vaccine doses, including boosters, and came into close contact with someone with COVID-19, you DO NOT need to quarantine immediately.

All others that are not in the group above, before visiting the campus, if you respond “YES” to any of the questions below, please refrain from going to campus or, if you have already traveled to campus, please exit the campus immediately and notify your Supervisor and/or Instructor.

Based on the new developments, trends in the state of Florida with regards COVID-19 protocols we have revised our protocol and safety measures.
Effective June 28, 2021, we will follow the revised COVID 19 Protocol that will include the following changes:

  • Allow fully vaccinated employees and students to eliminate the use of face coverings. However, use of mask will be a personal decision for vaccinated employees or students if they prefer it. Supervisors or Managers must not ask the employee if they have been vaccinated or to explain why they maintain the face covering.
  • Students are not required to provide evidence of vaccination as we will use the honor system.
  • For employee only– we will require to present evidence of vaccination to Human Resources. This evidence may be provided via email as a scan of the document. No one other than Human Resources personnel may request this evidence.
  • Non-vaccinated employees and students need to wear face coverings all times while on campus.
  • Social distancing will not be required but maintain safe and reasonable distancing among staff and students.
  • Acrylic dividers will remain in place in the offices as well.
  • Cleaning and sanitation of the campus will continue by the cleaning company.
  • Comply with posted campus guidelines and established hygiene and sanitation requirements.

Dear Graduates,
Commencement ceremonies and graduation celebratory activities are a culmination of all your hard work, personal sacrifice, and determination. These challenging times have led to some difficult decisions for everyone to adapt to as we are all putting forth an effort to keep our communities safe. Last year our institution, like many others, were faced with the decision to cancel or postpone our in-person commencement ceremony due to this worldwide pandemic. In 2020, we published a graduation celebration video and some campuses had small celebrations and awards ceremonies.

This year, 2021, our focus remains on the safety of our students, our staff, and our family and friends. Therefore, we have made the decision to host an in-person Grad Walk at each FTC Campus on Friday, July 9th, 2021, following CDC safety guidelines. Shortly after, the FTC virtual commencement ceremony and grad walk videos will be broadcasted on our website and social media outlets for all to celebrate virtually. Graduates from June 2019 to May 2021 will be permitted to take part in the Grad Walk on July 9th at their respective campuses. Each Graduate will be allowed to bring up to five (5) family members to participate with them in the celebratory activities. The event will be recorded and there will be plenty of opportunities for photos as you walk across the stage.

Communication Campus Safety Guidelines COVID-19

Florida Technical College and DAVE School campuses are remaining in Phase I maintaining strict safety guidelines and adhering to the Governor’s, CDC, and OSHA recommendations to maintain the wellbeing of our faculty, staff, and students. For your safety, we will continue to abide by the following Campus Operation rules:

• All students, faculty, and staff must check-in with security at the one designated entrance available.
• Temperature screenings will be required for all employees and students to gain access to the facility as an additional screening and safety protocol.
• All students, faculty, and staff must wear face coverings while on campus and must have their Identification (College ID).
• All students, faculty, and staff must adhere to the physical distancing (social) guidelines of 6ft and not have more than 10 people in a classroom area. All students, faculty, and staff must comply with posted guidelines and comply with established hygiene and sanitation requirements.
• All students must report to their scheduled classrooms. Once the students are dismissed, they must exit the building.
• Common areas will not be open at this time in order to avoid group gatherings.

FTC and DAVE School campuses are open for designated employees and students are visiting the campus to complete their necessary clinical and laboratory assignments. Before visiting the campus if you respond “yes” to any of the following questions, please refrain from going to campus or, if you have already traveled to campus, please notify your academic leader and exit the campus immediately. We ask that you contact your physician or visit a testing center and seek a written confirmation that you are not COVID-19 infected and with this documentation, you may return to campus. In addition, please notify your Instructor that you will not be attending class or lab so we can work on an academic plan with you.

Official Academic Notice – Florida Technical College
Cosmetology and Barbering Programs

Florida Technical College has made some important Academic Calendar Changes due to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) interruption of on-ground classes for Cosmetology and Barbering students.

The new term for continuing students will begin on Monday, June 15, 2020 Cosmetology and Barbering.

  • Students will continue their courses via distance education
  • Students will be scheduled for “on-campus” services and lab activities at least twice per week.
  • Students who have successfully completed their prior courses and are currently on Leave of Absence will be notified of their scheduled lab days. All classes will be available in Canvas LMS on Monday, June 15th.

For your safety, we have implemented the following Campus Operation guidelines:

  • All students, faculty, and staff must check-in with security at the one designated entrance available. Security will also be screening and taking temperature at each entry point.
  • All students, faculty, and staff must wear face coverings while on campus and must have their Identification (College ID).
  • All students, faculty, and staff must adhere to the physical distancing guidelines of 6 Feet and not have more than 10 people in a classroom area.
  • All students, faculty, and staff must ensure they keep to the hygiene and sanitation requirements.
  • All students must report to their scheduled classroom. Once the class is dismissed, they must exit the building. Common areas will not be open at this time in order to avoid group gatherings.

We are incredibly proud of the response that our students and our academic team has shown during the COVID-19 outbreak. Never in our institution’s more than 35-year history, have we ever faced a scenario quite like this.  We want to thank each of you for maintaining your academic progress, participating in community and campus initiatives, and for your collaboration with our college during this period.

These challenging times have led to some difficult decisions for everyone to adapt to this unprecedented situation and we are all putting forth an effort to keep our communities safe. With this in mind, for the safety of our students, our staff, and our family and friends, we have made the difficult decision to cancel our commencement ceremony, scheduled on June 6, 2020, at the Amway Center.

We recognize that graduation represents the culmination of all of your hard work, determination, and personal sacrifice.  Once we are able to host the graduation gathering safely, we will begin to plan the next event and our 2020 graduates will be included in this traditional ceremonial celebration.

Diplomas are delivered to the campus 6-8 weeks from the date of graduation, once we receive them we notify graduates to arrange for pick-up.  However, we are aware that some may not be able to personally pick-up your diplomas.   Therefore, Student Services Coordinators will be receiving your diplomas at the campus and will begin to package them and have them mailed to your homes.  Please ensure that we have your accurate mailing address by notifying the campus Student Services Coordinator.

Reopening South Florida Campus Operations

On May 26, Florida Technical College will transition to Phase I of the Reopening Plan for the Cutler Bay and Pembroke Pines campuses. Florida Technical College’s active academic courses will continue to be delivered 100% via distance education. On-campus operations remain restricted as departments may allow employees to return to their work location as long as no more than 25% of staff are present at one time. FTC employees may only return to campus with supervisory approval and must abide by established guidelines to ensure a safe work environment.

The Academic Calendar for the Coronavirus (COVID-19) Emergency will remain in effect in all units. During Phase I, the College is providing opportunities for students (at specific locations) to complete their laboratories, competencies, and practicum on-campus to satisfy the requirements for their incomplete courses.

All campuses are adhering to the Governor’s, CDC, and OSHA guidelines to maintain the safety of our faculty, staff, and students. Our Academic Leaders and faculty will be contacting each student to schedule a timeframe for each student to come to the campus to complete their necessary labs. All campuses are adhering to the Governor’s, CDC, and OSHA guidelines to maintain the safety of our faculty, staff, and students. Our Academic Leaders and faculty will be contacting each student to schedule a timeframe for each student to come to the campus to complete their necessary labs.

For your safety, we have implemented the following Campus Operation guidelines:

  • All students, faculty, and staff must check-in with security at the one designated entrance available. Temperature screenings will be required for all employees and students to gain access to the facility as an additional screening and safety protocol.
  • All students, faculty, and staff must wear face coverings while on campus and must have their Identification (College ID).
  • All students, faculty, and staff must adhere to the physical distancing guidelines of 6 Feet and not have more than 10 people in a classroom area.
  • All students, faculty, and staff must comply with posted guidelines and comply with established hygiene and sanitation requirements.
  • All students must report to their scheduled classrooms. Once the students are dismissed, they must exit the building. Common areas will not be open at this time in order to avoid group gatherings.

If you are unable to complete the scheduled make-up sessions, please communicate with your Dean of Academic Affairs or Program Director/Coordinator and they will provide you with your options. Our number one priority is the safety of our faculty, staff, and students. I encourage you to continue to follow the CDC and other local, state, and federal government recommendations for social distancing, health, and safety until we see this pandemic behind us.

Cosmetology and Barbering Programs

Florida Technical College has made some important Academic Changes due to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) interruption of on ground classes for Cosmetology and Barbering students:

  •  The new course start date has been changed to Monday, May 4, 2020.
  • Your current virtual class sessions in Canvas has been extended until April 2, 2020.
  • Between April 2, 2020 to April 30, 2020 your program director will provide you with a Virtual Make-Up Schedule.
  • Once FTC reopens the Kissimmee Campus, you will be able to complete your required services and labs.
  • Students who are able to complete their course before April 30, 2020 will be on break until the start of the new course.

Message from our President Dr. James M. Burkett

At Florida Technical College, the health, safety, and well-being of our staff, faculty, and students is our priority. This is why I have decided to move all of our personnel to work 100% remotely effective Tuesday, March 24 2020. While this is currently not a mandate, I feel it is important to be proactive. I believe this is the best approach to keep our staff, faculty, students, and the community at large safe.

From this date, all of our campus locations will be closed until it is deemed safe to reopen. However, assistance is available in multiple formats, including phone, email, live chat, social media, and our online learning system CANVAS. Our academic teams are working hard to ensure that our students stay on track towards their new career.

Students on externships will continue their practicums at their sites. Externship Coordinators are available to contact for any questions or concerns.

As the campuses wrapped up operations today, they each reached out to the law enforcement agency that serves their community and donated any medical supplies they had in inventory. Law enforcement officials were excited to accept gloves, gowns, and masks among other critical supplies. We are extremely thankful for their selfless service.

Although our facilities may be closed, our FTC student community is thriving and responding well to the transition to remote and online learning. All of our students receive a Chromebook device, with the exception of beauty programs, and complete some of their studies in these modalities already. This has allowed the faculty and students to quickly transition seamlessly into a fully remote environment. I am very proud of our students and staff for adjusting so well.

We have worked tirelessly to provide our students with additional resources to enhance their online learning experience by incorporating additional services such as online tutoring, live and recorded lectures, and virtual lab activities.

It is clear, based on feedback from our government officials that healthcare, culinary, and trades workers are essential to our community. FTC is proud to have a role in preparing the critical labor force needed to drive growth and prosperity in the state of Florida.

During this temporary interruption of ground classes, our faculty and staff are available for you to help you complete your assignments using our online learning management systems.  You can attend virtual classes, conferences and access the resources you need to complete your class successfully for this term.  We will schedule sessions in the labs once we are able to return to the campuses.  I want you to be confident and do not give up!  Our priority is that you are able to continue your education during this global emergency.

At Florida Technical College (FTC), the safety of our students, faculty, and staff is our first priority. We have been closely monitoring the coronavirus (COVID-19) situation. Based on recommendations from federal, state, and local government and to stay consistent with and understanding of the closures of the K-12 and public state colleges and universities, Florida Technical College has made the following course delivery adjustments:

All FACE TO FACE CAMPUS SESSIONS ARE CANCELLED BEGINNING MONDAY, MARCH 16TH THROUGH FRIDAY, MARCH 27TH AND WILL BE REPLACED WITH REMOTE LEARNING AS INDICATED BELOW:

ALL ONLINE COURSES WILL CONTINUE UNINTERRUPTED AND AS SCHEDULED.

BLENDED COURSES WILL CONTINUE UNINTERRUPTED BUT COMPLETELY ONLINE

Fully face to face programs that include construction trades, culinary, baking, and esthetics will transition to remote learning beginning Monday, March 16th and continue in this modality through Friday, March 27th. Faculty and academic leadership will communicate to provide further instructions. Please pay close attention to Canvas notifications, phone, and/or email messages from faculty regarding your specific courses.

Lab and hands on competencies associated with any blended or fully face to face courses will be scheduled to be completed the week of March 30th.

Cosmetology and Barbering students will be contacted by campus personnel with information on how their courses will be handled.

Internship and/or Externship courses will continue as scheduled unless the external site interrupts the continuation due to safety concerns. In that case, students must contact their Externship Coordinator.

The next new module/course start date will be pushed back to April 6th to allow the week of March 30th to be used for makeup and lab activities.

Continuing Education classes scheduled from March 16th to March 26th, 2020 will be postponed and new course meeting dates will be sent and published for all continuing and new start CE classes in all locations. These locations include Tampa, Orlando, and Kissimmee.

Student Services and Educational Resource Centers will be available virtually. We are here to support your transition and help guide you as you continue to engage in your classes.

All campuses will be open for administrative activities and staff will be available for any students needs or inquiries during normal business hours.

Thank you for your cooperation and understanding as we continue to evaluate and respond to this rapidly changing situation guided by our priority to safeguard the health and well-being of our university community. At Florida Technical College, the health, safety and well-being of our students and faculty is our priority. Over the past weeks, we have been actively monitoring the outbreak of the COVID-19 virus. We are closely following recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and U.S. Department of State, as well as state and local health officials.

At this time, all of our campuses in all divisions (FTC, DAVE School and FTC-CE) will remain open for students and employees. More information will be shared here as it is developed.

Prevention is a key strategy with any virus, such as influenza or this coronavirus, so it is important to both protect yourself and take measures against spread to others.

What is coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19)?

Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is a respiratory illness that can spread from person to person. The virus that causes COVID-19 is a novel coronavirus that was first identified during an investigation into an outbreak in Wuhan, China.

How does COVID-19 spread?

The virus that causes COVID-19 probably emerged from an animal source, but is now spreading from person to person. The virus is thought to spread mainly between people who are in close contact with one another (within about 6 feet) through respiratory droplets produced when an infected person coughs or sneezes. It also may be possible that a person can get COVID-19 by touching a surface or object that has the virus on it and then touching their own mouth, nose, or possibly their eyes, but this is not thought to be the main way the virus spreads. What are the symptoms of COVID-19?

Patients with COVID-19 have had mild to severe respiratory illness with symptoms of:

  • fever
  • cough
  • shortness of breath

How can I help protect myself?

People can help protect themselves from respiratory illness with everyday preventive actions.

  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth withunwashed hands.
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. Use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol if soap and water are not available.

If you are sick, to keep from spreading respiratory illness to others, you should:

  • Stay home when you are sick.
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objectsand surfaces.
